Description:

This book preface explains the needs found by the book editors for assembling the state of the art of technical and scientific knowledge relevant to chemical engineering, sustainability, and sustainable uses of wastes and materials management, and to do so in an accessible and coherent manner. Sustainability is a profoundly complex problem, and addressing it effectively will require knowledge from many different disciplines and sub-disciplines. The practitioners of many of these disciplines and even sub-disciplines often travel in separate circles, and there is, therefore, a need for a volume such as this one to tie together the different important threads of knowledge in a compact form in one place for practical application. In addition, this book preface includes a historical development of sustainability, the commonality and the contrast between sustainability and sustainable development, the book content and purpose, and a summary.
