Description:

Pseudomonas aeruginosa was used a model organism to study mechanisms that lead to genome alteration in freshwater microbial populations. ur studies demonstrated horizontal transmission by both transduction and conjugation in freshwater ecosystems and provided data that suggest that intracellular genome instability may be increased due to environmental stresses encountered by the cell in this habitat.
