Description:

The objective of this research was to determine whether aqueous chlorine and chlorine dioxide react with activated carbon, or with compounds adsorbed on activated carbon, to produce compounds that would not form in the absence of activated carbon. The experimental conditions were either typical of those found in drinking water treatment plants, or they permitted conclusions to be made about the nature of the reaction under water treatment plant conditions.
