Evaluation of the Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) Model Version 5.1

Citation:

Appel, W., S. Napelenok, C. Hogrefe, K. Foley, G. Pouliot, S. Roselle, AND Jon Pleim. Evaluation of the Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) Model Version 5.1. American Meteorological Society Annual Meeting, New Orleans, LA, January 10 - 14, 2016.

Impact/Purpose:

The National Exposure Research Laboratory (NERL) Computational Exposure Division (CED) develops and evaluates data, decision-support tools, and models to be applied to media-specific or receptor-specific problem areas. CED uses modeling-based approaches to characterize exposures, evaluate fate and transport, and support environmental diagnostics/forensics with input from multiple data sources. It also develops media- and receptor-specific models, process models, and decision support tools for use both within and outside of EPA.

Description:

The AMAD will performed two CMAQ model simulations, one with the current publically available version of the CMAQ model (v5.0.2) and the other with the new version of the CMAQ model (v5.1). The results of each model simulation are compared to observations and the performance of the model simulations assessed. This work summarizes the performance of each model simulation and how the performance of the new model compares to the current model.
