Impact/Purpose:

see description

Description:

This method provides a procedure for determination of chlorophylls a (chl a) and b (chl b) found in marine and freshwater phytoplankton. Reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with detection at 440 nm is used to separate the pigments from a complex pigment mixture and measure them in the sub-microgram range. For additional reference, other taxonomically important yet commercially unavailable pigments of interest are identified by retention time.
