New Performance Metrics for Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction-Based Microbial Source Tracking Methods

Impact/Purpose:

To inform the public.

Description:

Binary sensitivity and specificity metrics are not adequate to describe the performance of quantitative microbial source tracking methods because the estimates depend on the amount of material tested and limit of detection. We introduce a new framework to compare the performance of quantitative fecal source identification methods.
