Description:
This chapter is organized into three sections. The first part describes the characteristics of the older adult population and the U.S. EPA’s efforts to protect elders form environmental hazards. Section II covers available exposure factor data, activity pattern and the potential grouping for the characterization of older adults for risk assessments. The final section addresses how epigenetics can affect physiological pathways and impact a person’s risk and susceptibility to environmental challenges. A separate related chapter addressed the older worker, Occupational Health and Safety Risks for the Aging Worker.
