RNA-Based Methods Increase the Detection of Fecal Bacteria and Fecal Identifiers in Environmental Waters

Impact/Purpose:

We showed that RNA methods can increase the detection of fecal bacteria in environmental waters

Description:

We evaluated the use of qPCR RNA-based methods in the detection of fecal bacteria in environmental waters. We showed that RNA methods can increase the detection of fecal bacteria in multiple water matrices. The data suggest that this is a viable alternative for the detection of active fecal bacteria such as indications of fecal pollution and source identifiers.
