Impact/Purpose:

ISIS is a modeling framework that is being designed by the US EPA to help regulators analyze an economic impact of proposed regolatory policy. It's a mathematical tool which would be used to analyze the dynamics of an industrial sector in question, market behavior, and environmental impacts of pollutants emitted by the respective industrial sector.

Description:

Increased concerns over air pollution and its detrimental effects on health have called for more stringent emission reduction strategies in the industrial sector. However, stringent regulatory policies can potentially adversely affect domestic and international trade. Therefore EPA has determined, it is important to gain a more complete understanding of the complex interaction between environment and economy through detailed technical and economic analysis. A mathematical modeling framework is required to facilitate these analyses. Accordingly, the U.S. EPA is developing a modeling framework called Industrial Sectors and Integrated Solutions (ISIS) to evaluate the economic impacts of environmental regulations.
