Integrated Environmental Modeling: Quantitative Microbial Risk Assessment

Citation:

Whelan, G. Integrated Environmental Modeling: Quantitative Microbial Risk Assessment. Presented at Western Initiative for Dairy Environment, Boise, ID, February 25 - 26, 2015.

Impact/Purpose:

Present information on Integrated Environmental Modeling in support of Quantitative Microbial Risk Assessment.

Description:

The presentation discusses the need for microbial assessments and presents a road map associated with quantitative microbial risk assessments, through an integrated environmental modeling approach. A brief introduction and the strengths of the current knowledge are illustrated. Weaknesses or gaps in knowledge are presented, and relevant research questions are discussed based upon priorities critical to dairy production in a sustainable manner. Noted collaboration efforts among other organizations are listed, including current collaborations already happening. The benefits of coordinating research across disciplines are presented to summarize the transdisciplinary nature of the research. Integration across all disciplines will likely be required for the greatest impact on addressing the most critical issues about dairying to meet food needs while sustaining a healthy environment.
