Impact/Purpose:

Emissions from oil and gas production sites vary based on a number of factors including the geology and composition of the oil and gas product. Due to the variety of equipment designs, difference in maintenance states, and variable product composition, emissions are somewhat uncertain. Currently, there is a lack of measured emissions data spanning different geographical regions that can be used to verify and evaluate the currently accepted emissions estimates. Complicating this effort is that there is no formally-evaluated and approved test protocol that can be used to consistently conduct such measurements under the variety of encountered conditions. To improve both the measurement method and emissions knowledge from this sector, the U.S. EPA Office of Research and Development (ORD), and its partners are conducting a series of on-site, direct measurement and off-site remote measurement1 studies in multiple areas of the country. This abstract describes a direct measurement study of emissions from oil and gas production pads and the equipment used.

Description:

Extended Abstract for Air & Waste Management Association 105th Annual Conference & Exhibition, June 19-22, 2012, San Antonio, TX. This extended abstract describes a direct measurement study of production pad emissions near Greeley, CO, conducted by ARCADIS in coordination with Sage Environmental Consulting (Sage) and in collaboration with several industry operators. In addition to preliminary emissions results, this abstract describes the instrumentation used and issues encountered in the study.
