EVALUATION OF THE EMPIRICAL KINETIC MODELING APPROACH (EKMA)

Citation:

Martinez, J., C. Maxwell, H. Javitz, AND R. Bawol. EVALUATION OF THE EMPIRICAL KINETIC MODELING APPROACH (EKMA). U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, D.C., EPA/600/3-83/003 (NTIS PB84128313).

Description:

The EKMA is a Lagrangian photochemical air quality simulation model that calculates ozone from its precursors: nonmethane organic compounds (NMOC) and nitrogen oxides (NOx). This study evaluated the performance of the EKMA when it is used to estimate the maximum ozone concentration that can occur in an urban area and its environs. The evaluation was conducted using data for five U.S. cities: St. Louis, Houston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and Tulsa. The report describes the results for the various cities, and discusses potential applications of the methodology to other models and to the assessment of ozone control strategies.
