Nitrogen Source and Loading Data for EPA Estuary Data Mapper

Citation:

Detenbeck, N. Nitrogen Source and Loading Data for EPA Estuary Data Mapper. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, DC, EPA/600/C-15/001, 2014.

Impact/Purpose:

The nitrogen source and loading data sets for estuaries and associated watersheds of the conterminous U.S. will be made publically available through EPA's Estuary Data Mapper application (www.epa.gov/edm). The purpose of these data sets is to facilitate assessment of current, historic, and projected trends in nitrogen sources and loadings to coastal systems to inform management actions.

Description:

Nitrogen source and loading data have been compiled and aggregated at the scale of estuaries and associated watersheds of the conterminous United States, using the spatial framework in EPA's Estuary Data Mapper (EDM) to provide system boundaries. Original sources of data include US Geological Survey (SPARROW loading models, fertilizer and manure sources), US Environmental Protection Agency (point source discharges, CMAQ modelled atmospheric deposition, estimated nitrogen fixation), and National Atmospheric Deposition Program (NADP). Data can be accessed, visualized, and downloaded from the EPA's EDM (www.epa.gov/edm).
