Impact/Purpose:

Proposal for a special session to be held at the 2014 Conference on Ecological and Ecosystem Restoration. The proposal sets up EPA engagement in this larger restoration fora for benefit of Gulf of Mexico Program office as restoration activities move forward.

Description:

This session focuses on the importance of restoring water quality as part of the larger Gulf of Mexico restoration efforts. Water quality has been identified as a significant indicator of water body condition, and Gulf waters have been impacted by increased urban development, agricultural runoff, alterations in flow, and most recently, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
