WateriD User Manual (WERF Report INFR9SG09a)

Impact/Purpose:

Due to aging and deteriorating conveyance infrastructure, many of the 54,000 community drinking water systems and 16,000 publicly owned wastewater treatment systems in the United States are, or will be, significantly accelerating their water infrastructure asset management decision-making and renewal implementation over the next two decades. The Water Infrastructure Database (WaterID; http://waterid.org) provides a single point for information about applicability, performance, and cost of pipe location, condition assessment, and renewal technologies and practices. WateriD improves utility capability to efficiently and comprehensively identify and evaluate pipe location, condition assessment, and renewal technologies and practices. WaterID also enables utilities to identify other utilities with relevant situations and experience. In addition to users directly accessing data from WATERiD, the database can also be used as a source of information for updating or developing Manuals of Practice and other decision support tools to complement the information on WaterID. The WateriD User Manual guides users on how and where they can efficiently find the information and data in WateriD.

Description:

The Water Infrastructure Database (WATERiD; http://waterid.org ) is designed to be a knowledge base where water and wastewater utilities can upload and gather information about asset management technology and practice experiences. The main emphasis is on pipe location, condition assessment, and renewal technologies. By helping to bridge knowledge gaps in these areas, the true promise of asset management can be more readily achieved. WATERiD will continuously improve through constant accumulation of industry knowledge. Although there is some information publicly available on the website (case studies, paper reviews, technology profiles, etc.), most of the information can only be accessed by registering onto the website and logging in with a personal username and password. The WateriD User Manual helps with efficient and seamless access to the data. It contains detailed information about: the website and the database structure, how to navigate the website, how to upload to the website, how to search for and gather information, the data review process, and answers to frequently asked questions. For some projects the Executive Summary is available and can be downloaded for free without registering on the WERF site.]
