Impact/Purpose:
Students especially, and the public in general, are often interested in how people choose their career and the paths they take to pursue it. EPA scientists have much to offer in this regard and can help guide and mentor their listeners so that they can avoid career pitfalls and apply their energies in the most productive and important areas.
Description:
Career paths, current and future, in the environmental sciences will be discussed, based on experiences and observations during the author's 40 + years in the field. An emphasis will be placed on the need for integrated, transdisciplinary systems thinking approaches toward achieving sustainable futures for environment, economy and society. This will be discussed in the context of climate change, changing population numbers and demographics, and increasingly limited energy and water supplies.
