EPA is releasing the Draft Plan for Development of the Integrated Science Assessment for Nitrogen Oxides - Health Criteria as announced in a May 3, 2013 Federal Register Notice. Comments must be received on or before May 31, 2013.

Impact/Purpose:

The purpose of this draft document is to communicate the plan for the development of the Integrated Science Assessment (ISA) for the health effects of nitrogen oxides (NOX), which will provide a comprehensive assessment of the current scientific literature pertaining to known and anticipated effects on public health associated with the NOX in the ambient air.

Description:

EPA has announced a draft development plan for the next Integrated Science Assessment (ISA) for the health effects of nitrogen oxides (NOX) which will serve as the scientific basis for review of the primary (health-based) National Ambient Air Quality Standard for nitrogen dioxide. The ISA is intended to provide a comprehensive assessment of the current scientific literature pertaining to known and anticipated effects on public health associated with the NOX in the ambient air. The Preamble that has been included in previous ISAs is provided here as a resource for review of the ISA development plan, since it describes the general processes for ISA development.
