Description:

For centuries, customary or traditional laws have covered the use of biological resources throughout the world. As human population levels increase in all societies, voluntary actions governed by cultural practices are frequently insufficient to protect biodiversity, leading to an increasing reliance on the creation and enforcement of government legislation and regulation to protect biodiversity.
