Impact/Purpose:

This webinar is being presented as part of the EPA ORD Green Infrastructure Research webinar series. It provides the approach and initial results of research conducted under a Region 1 RARE project (SSWR 7) and SSWR 4.2B. Research is being conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of green infrastructure stormwater BMPs at the small watershed scale.

Description:

There have been numerous studies of the water quantity and quality functions of stormwater BMPs at the site scale, but relatively few assessments at the watershed scale. This presentation will present an overview and initial results of projects to evaluate the effectiveness of green infrastructure (GI) stormwater BMPs at the small watershed scale in New England (EPA R1), the Delaware River Basin, the Chesapeake Bay watershed, and Austin Metropolitan Area, TX. Urbanization-response relationships for stream biota (periphyton, macroinvertebrates, fish) and habitat (flow, substrate quality, temperature) are developed using historical monitoring data. Watersheds with significant GI BMP implementation are identified through compilation of inventories of BMP activity for comparison with predicted condition in the absence of BMPs.
