In vitro methods for the determination of test chemicals metabolism utilizing fish liver subcellular fractions and hepatocytes

Citation:

Nichols, J. In vitro methods for the determination of test chemicals metabolism utilizing fish liver subcellular fractions and hepatocytes. Presented at SETAC Europe.

Impact/Purpose:

The purpose of this one-day short course is to train students on methods used to measure in vitro metabolism in fish and extrapolate this information to the intact animal. This talk is one of four presentations given by course instructors. The first part of this talk provides an introduction to the topic. The second part describes a mathematical model used to perform in vitro-in vivo metabolism extrapolations and then predict the impact on this activity on chemical accumulation by fish. Students will be provided with an Excel spreadsheet program that includes this model and guided through a series of modeling exercises designed to illustrate important principles.
