Impact/Purpose:

The US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have conducted seven laboratory-based drinking water inactivation studies using non-disease causing surrogates for Bacillus anthracis and microbes that are CDC Category A or B agents and select agents. All have been identified as potential bioterrorism agents.
