Advanced Decentralized Water/Energy Network Design for Sustainable Infrastructure presentation at the 2012 National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) International Builders'Show. To be Presented at National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) International Builders' Show.

Impact/Purpose:

To inform the public.

Description:

A university/industry panel will report on the progress and findings of a fivesteve-year project funded by the US Environmental Protection Agency. The project's end product will be a Web-based, 3D computer-simulated residential environment with a decision support system to assist designers and developers in analyzing water and energy network designs. To help builders benefit from this new resource, this session will discuss the research that went into it--starting with the researchers' examination of decentralized drinking water and wastewater technologies. A second aspect of the research looked at renewable energy and energy savings/recovery technologies for households and communities. A third part of the research examined ways to incorporate these and other technologies into a virtual environment as a decision-support tool to achieve maximum water/energy efficiency while minimizing costs.
