Riparian Zone Analysis for Forest Land Cover for the Conterminous US

Citation:

Ebert, D. Riparian Zone Analysis for Forest Land Cover for the Conterminous US. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, DC, EPA/600/C/12/003, 2012.

Impact/Purpose:

This is a foundational data layer that was created using the ATtILA 2004

Description:

One data layer describing the amount of forest land cover contained within a buffer area extending 30 meters to each side of all streams contained within the basin (Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD) 12-digit Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC)) and from the edge of water bodies such as lakes and ponds that are connected via flow to the streams. Streams and waterbodies were taken from the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) high resolution stream network. Forest land cover is defined as 2006 National Land Cover Dataset (NLCD) land cover codes 41, 42, 43, and 90. The data layer was created using the ATtILA 2004 (Analytical Tools Interface for Landscape Assessments) software extension within the ArcView 3.x desktop Geographic Information System (GIS) package.
