Citation:

LEE, E., P. A. BEEDLOW, AND R. S. WASCHMANN. Tree-ring analysis of the fungal disease Swiss needle cast and its impact on radial growth of Douglas-fir in the Western Oregon coast. Presented at Ecological Society of America, Portland, OR, August 05 - 10, 2012.

Impact/Purpose:

Swiss needle cast disease is specific to Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) and is endemic to the Pacific Northwest.

Description:

To inform an individual-based forest stand model emphasizing belowground competition, we explored the potential of using the relative abundances of ribosomal PCR products from pooled and milled roots, to allocate total root biomass to each of the three coniferous species and to non-coniferous understory species.
