DRINKING WATER INFRASTRUCTURE NEEDS SURVEY (1999)

Description:

Resource Purpose:EPA is conducting the 1999 Needs Survey to meet requirements of the SDWA. Section 1452(h) of the SDWA requires EPA to conduct an assessment every 4 years of capital investments that are needed by public water systems (PWSs). In addition, SDWS sec 1452(i)(4) requires EPA, in consultation with the Indian Health Service (IHS), to assess the drinking water infrastructure needs of American Indian and Alaska Native water systems. Data collection for the 1999 survey began in November 1998, with results due to Congress in February 20001. The survey results will describe the 20-year needs of the nation's drinking water systems. The results will be used to allot Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) monies. Under SDWA sec 1452(a)(1)(D)(ii), Congress has directed that capitalization grants for FY 1998 and subsequent years be allotted among States based on each State's proportional share of the total needs identified in the most recent Drinking Water Needs Survey.
