ICR AUXILIARY DATABASE 2 (AUX 2): CT & DISINFECTION DATABASE

Description:

Resource Purpose:The Office of Ground Water and Drinking Water (OGWDW) is developing interrelated regulations to control microbial pathogens and disinfectants/disinfection byproducts in drinking water. The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) of 1996 requires EPA to develop these rules to balance risks between pathogens and disinfection byproducts (DBPs). In order to collect information to assess the risks from pathogens and DBPs to support the regulatory development process, the Agency established monitoring and data reporting requirements under the Information Collection Rule (ICR) in 1996. Data gathered under the ICR include occurrence levels of key water quality parameters, microbial pathogens and disinfection byproducts as well as treatment information at about 300 large public water systems throughout the nation. All monitoring data collected is stored in the ICR Federal database (ICRFED). An ICR technical work group (TWG) has been working on ICR data analysis since late 1997. This TWG has developed a range of possible analytical questions to bound the ICR data analysis that will support the rulemaking. They have also identified the kind of data needed to answer these questions and developed requirements for auxiliary databases to contain this data. ICR data most pertinent to the development of the Stage 2 Disinfectants and Disinfection Byproducts Rule (DBPR) and the Long Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule (LT2ESWTR) were extracted from ICRFED and downloaded to these databases which are referred to as the ICR Auxiliary databases. Auxiliary 2 (AUX 2) is a database designed to analyze water treatment plant microbial inactivation and disinfection.
