Description:

In the present investigation, hydrogen production via water splitting by nano ferrites has been studied using ethanol as the sacrificial donor. The nano ferrite has shown great potential in hydrogen generation with hydrogen yield of 8275 9moles/h/ g of photocatalyst under visible light as compared to 3080 9moles/h/g of photocatalyst for the titania Degussa P-25 (best known photocatalysts) under similar experimental conditions. The exceptionally high activity of this nano-photocatalyst is unprecedented and to the best of our knowledge is reported for the first time. The effect of various parameters (amount of photocatalyst, illumination intensity, illumination time and amount of sacrificial donor) influencing the hydrogen yield were investigated in detail.
