Citation:

GROSSE, D. W. Workshop: Addressing Regulatory Challenges In Vapor Intrusion: A State-of-the Science Update Focusing On Chlorinated VOCs. Presented at 21st Annual International Conference on Soil, Water, Energy and Air and AEHS Foundation Annual Meeting, San Diego, CA, March 14 - 17, 2011.

Impact/Purpose:

To describe the state-of-the-science for addressing challenges in investigating, assessing, and mitigating VI sites.

Description:

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) Offices of Research and Devevlopment and Solid Waste and Emergency Response continue to collaborate on providing technical assistance and support to EPA regional offices, other federal agencies, state regulators, and other interested parties that are managing vapor intrusion (VI) risks from contaminated soil and groundwater. EPA's technical assistance often relies on information and data analyses from research studies, demonstration projects, field studies, and commercial cleanups. Contributors to these efforts have been investigating VI for nearly two decades and continue to advance the science of understanding VI. As a result, how this science is applied to determine, characterize, and manage VI risks is constantly evolving, and much more still needs to be done to transfer this knowledge so that regulators, consultants, and other decision makers can make informed and effective decisions. To address this need, this 1-day workshop will describe the state-of-the-science for addressing challenges in investigating, assessing, and mitigating VI sites.
