Impact/Purpose:

To inform the public.

Description:

This presentation will summarize the results of several projects of the USEPA Arsenic Demonstration Program. The presentation will begin with a summary of the current national compliance data of the arsenic regulation including the number and location of MCL violations. The second and third parts of the presentation will be two case studies from the Arsenic Demonstration Program. The first case study will be the demo study at Willard, UT, with emphasis placed on the unique pretreatment system of adsorptive media arsenic removal system. The pretreatment system used to enhance the life of the adsorptive media consisted of a column Birm/Filox that was used to remove iron and oxidize As III. The second case study is the regenerating project conducted on exhausted, iron-based, adsorptive media on-site at the full-scale arsenic removal system in Twentynine Palms, CA. The presentation will describe the regeneration process, the effectiveness of the process, and conclude with a discussion of the on-site handling of the waste water produced by the regeneration process.
