The report presents a review of studies where biota-sediment accumulation factors (BSAFs) were measured in the field, and the same sediment samples were tested in the laboratory using sediment bioaccumulation testing protocols. The focus of this review was to document the extent of agreement between laboratory and field measured BSAFs. Documenting and understanding the levels of agreement between laboratory and field measurements is important because of the regulatory use of BSAF data in assessing new chemical and existing chemicals, evaluating navigational dredge materials, and establishing site-specific bioaccumulation factors for contaminated sediment sites.
