Water Infrastructure Adaptation in New Urban Design: Possibilities and Constraints

Impact/Purpose:

To inform the public.

Description:

Natural constraints, including climate change and dynamic socioeconomic development, can significantly impact the way we plan, design, and operate water infrastructure, thus its sustainability to deliver reliable quality water supplies and comply with environmental regulations. Holistic approaches toward sustainability are being discussed in this ICOSSE 2011 conference and its RESIN workshop. This presentation elevates the discussion to the next level of infrastructure adaptation in the context of smart urban designs, for which the constraints and opportunities are discussed in considering the natural constraints, engineering methodology, and infrastructure engineering practices.
