Impact/Purpose:
HexSim makes it possible for non-programmers to develop sophisticated simulations of wildlife and stressor interactions
Description:
HexSim version 2.0 is soon to be released by EPA's Western Ecology Division (WED). More than three years of work have gone into the development of this tool, which grew out of an EPA model called PATCH. HexSim makes it possible for non-programmers to develop sophisticated simulations of wildlife and stressor interactions. Applications of HexSim will include the study of impacts of pesticide applications on wildlife populations, forecasts of population responses to land use change and urban growth, studies of how climate change-driven range shifts alter species' viability, advances in the fields of landscape connectivity and landscape genetics, and more. HexSim will be made available at the WED web site.
