Impact/Purpose:

conference paper

Description:

This paper provides preliminary information on the trends in ambient concentrations observed near a heavily traveled highway in Las Vegas, Nevada. As part of a joint effort by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Federal Highway Administration, an air monitoring program is being completed at the roadside of Interstate-15. The data set is still being compiled and has not been subject to final quality assurance/quality control checks. The main objective of the research study is to characterize concentration levels in the ambient air adjacent to major highway facilities that are attributable to motor vehicle emissions, including carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (N02), particulate matter less than 2.5 micrometers (PM2.S), benzene, black carbon (a surrogate for diesel particulate matter), and more.
