Description:

This presentation will describe the method and results of laboratory tests showing the feasibility of regenerating exhausted, iron-based, adsorptive media and the results of a follow up regeneration test at a full scale system in Twentynine Palms CA. The laboratory studies on several exhausted, iron-based, adsorptive media indicated that iron-based media, such as E33, can be regenerated with caustic solutions using an approach similar to that for regenerating activated alumina for fluoride and/or arsenic removal. At Twentynine Palms, CA, one tank of exhausted media was regenerated and one tank of media replaced with virgin media. During the first four months of operation, the regenerated media performed similarly to the virgin media reducing the arsenic in the raw water from 16 ug/L to 0.7 ug/L.
