Status and Directions of Insect Resistance Monitoring Project
Impact/Purpose:
To inform the public.
Description:
EPA has conducted research since 2004 to investigate the use of remote images to detect pest infestation from a hyperspectral airborne camera. Results from the 2008 field research have shown that pest infestation effects can be detected without foreknowledge of field assessed conditions. The 2009 research effort is directed to further test this ability with an expectation of learning how robust this newly found ability can be. The ability of EPA to monitor, detect and react to insect resistance when it develops is critical to decision making regarding the pest threat to the crop. The current status of the EPA IRM monitoring program and integration of remote sensed imagery acquired from multi-spectral satellite and airborne hyperspectral sensors for use as a decision support tool will be discussed
