Impact/Purpose:

The need to better understand chronic modes of action is critical for viable alternative testing strategies to gain acceptance. This group aims not only to advance the science, but also to serve as a coordination body, bringing together scientists and regulators from various ongoing national and international initiatives in order to focus resources.

Description:

This initiative, though focusing perhaps on individual assays at the beginning, recognizes the need for a tiered strategy for ecotoxicity tests that better integrates new techniques (models, in vitro methods, new technologies) to improve ecotoxicity testing as a whole. The realization that there is no single replacement, refinement, or reduction approach that will fit every scenario necessitates the need for an integrated group of experts from multiple sectors to tackle this issue on a global scale. The need to better understand chronic modes of action is critical for viable alternative testing strategies to gain acceptance. This group aims not only to advance the science, but also to serve as a coordination body, bringing together scientists and regulators from various ongoing national and international initiatives in order to focus resources.
