Description:

A novel nano-catalyst system which bridges the homogenous and heterogeneous system is described that is cheaper, easily accessible (sustainable) and requires no need of catalyst filtration during the work-up. Because of its nano-size, i.e. high surface area, the contact between reactants and catalyst increases dramatically and the operation mimics the homogeneous catalysts. Concurrently, due to their insolubility in common solvents and their paramagnetic nature, they can be separated out easily from the reaction mixture by using an external magnet. Thus, the nano-materials have the dual advantage of both the catalyst systems while offering the unique activity with high selectivity. Further details of their preparation and utility in various reaction types will be presented.
