An Overview of the Toxicity of Naphthalene, EDB and Ethanol

Impact/Purpose:

To provide information on the toxicity and carcinogenicity of naphthalene and 1,2-dibromoethane (EDB).

Description:

This presentation is a short summary of information on the toxicity and carcinogenicity of naphthalene and 1,2-dibromoethane (EDB) that is available in the EPA Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) and information on the toxicity of ethanol available from the Health, Environmental and Economic Impacts of Adding Ethanol to Gasoline in the Northeast States, published by New England Interstate Water Pollution Commission. To provide a relative indication of the risk provided from these fuel components, the expected equilibrium concentration of the compounds in ground water in contact with an unweathered spill of motor gasoline was compared to the MCL or other concentration based standard as appropriate
