Description:

The Sustainable Technology Division has recently completed an implementation of the U.S. EPA's Waste Reduction (WAR) Algorithm that can be directly accessed from a Cape-Open compliant process modeling environment. The WAR Algorithm add-in can be used in AmsterChem's COFE (Cape-Open Flowsheeting Environment). The WAR add-in accesses the chemical flows and unit operations directly from COFE and calculates the WAR score for a process. Users have the option to select individual unit operations for the WAR evaluation, as well as traditional WAR options of including energy use and inclusion of product streams in the evaluation. This implementation of the WAR Algorithm makes use of the Flowsheet Monitoring interface that AmsterChem has proposed to the Cape-Open Laboratories Network (CO-Lan). The WAR Algorithm add-in is included in the latest release of AmsterChem's Cape-Open to Cape-Open (COCO) Simulation Environment from www.cocosimulator.org.
