Description:
EPA held a 2-day workshop on December 8 and 9, 2010 at the Doubletree Hotel Washington DC-Crystal City in Arlington, Viriginia. The goal of this workshop was to evaulate methods of determining cumulative risk associated with exposure to mulitple phthalates for inclusion in the EPA's Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) Human Health Risk Assessment for Selected Phthalates. This assessment will include noncancer and cancer qualitative and quantitative human health effects information and estimation of risk where the data are available for ech of the following phthalates:
dibutyl phthalate (DBP), di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP), di-isobutyl phthalate(DIBP), di-isononyl phthalate (DINP), and dipentyl phthalate (DPP).
The specific objectives of this workshop were to:
- Evaluate cumulative hazard and dose response assessment recommendations presented in the 2008 National Academies of Science (NAS) report "Phthalates and Cumulative Risk Assessment-The Tasks Ahead"
- Discuss approaches for determining cumulative risk associated with exposure to multiple phthalates
- Generate workshop proceedings to assist the EPA phthalate workgroup in decision making regarding options and preferred methods for development of the cumulative risk assessment for phthalates
