Decision Support Framework (DSF) (Formerly Decision Support Platform)
Citation:
VEGA, A. M. Decision Support Framework (DSF) (Formerly Decision Support Platform). Presented at Science Advisory Board, Ecological Processes and Effects Committee, Washington, DC, July 15, 2009.
Impact/Purpose:
To provide a response to comments related to the decision support framework (DSF) part of Long-Term Goal 1. Also, proposed next steps, goals and challenges were presented.
Description:
The Science Advisory Board (SAB) provided several comments on the draft Ecosystem Services Research Program's (ESRP's) Multi-Year Plan (MYP). This presentation provides a response to comments related to the decision support framework (DSF) part of Long-Term Goal 1. The comments focused on lack of in-house expertise, concerns about the feasibility of developing a decision support platform, and lack of clarity regarding how the DSP would work. An SAB quality reviewer suggested that before a platform be developed, it was important to ask decision-makers and stakeholders what they needed. Two primary responses are described: management actions and workshops. Management actions include new hires, cross-ORD post docs, use of experts, development of partners, and development in in-house capability via "learning by doing". The DSF team participated in the ESRP Coastal Carolina's workshop to hear what this project's stakeholders and decision-makers need. The DSF team co-led an ESRP Coral Reefs/DSF workshop to understand what coral reef decision-makers/stakeholders need. Lessons learned are presented along with an emerging vision of the DSF. The presentation also includes proposed next steps, goals and challenges.
