Citation:

BARRON, M. G., D. VIVIAN, C. RUSSOM, AND S. RAIMONDO. A Classification Scheme for Assignment of Chemical Class and Mode of Action for Organic and Metal Contaminants. Presented at SETAC North America 30th Annual Meeting , NEW ORLEANS, LA, November 19 - 23, 2009.

Impact/Purpose:

A classification scheme for chemical class and mode of action for acute toxicity to fish and aquatic invertebrates was developed and applied to over 750 organic and metallic compounds. Understanding the chemistry and MOA of environmental contaminants are critical to assessing ecological hazards and risks. The classification scheme and resulting chemical class and MOA assignments are intended to facilitate investigations of relationships between aquatic toxicity, chemical structure, and MOA, and the development of predictive toxicity modeling tools such as Web-ICE (epa.gov/ceampubl/fchain/webice/).
