Description:

SMARTe (Sustainable Management Approaches and Revitalization Tools-electronic) is a web-based decision support tool developed by he Office of Research and Development (ORD) in partnership with the Office of Brownfields and Land Revitalization (OBLR), the Interstate Technology Regulatory Council (ITRC) and the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF). SMARTe contains information, links, analysis tools, checklists, and case studies to help users overcome obstacles to site revitalization. It can be found at www.smarte.org and is freely available to the public. In May 2008, SMARTe was introduced to representatives of the German Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ). As a result of this meeting, UFZ and EPA entered into a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) to develop a mirror image of SMARTe in Germany called DE.SMARTe. The subject presentation will give an overview of he origins of SMARTe and introduce the collaborative UFZ-EPA effort to conference participants.
