Description:
The near roadway research track uses animal and human studies to better understand the associations between roadway proximity and adverse cardiopulmonary and neurological effects. This research will yield animal and human toxicity data in parallel with exposure assessment efforts that provide a baseline for future risk analysis and management. These studies’ findings may be used by EPA program offices and by local officials involved in community planning issues, such as the location of public schools, health care facilities, and major roadways. The results of this project will help reduce uncertainty in decisions regarding which pollutants to target for regulation and/or other mitigation efforts.
