Air Research Program: Susceptibility Research Track
Impact/Purpose:
Air MYP
Description:
The susceptibility research track is focused on susceptibility due to life stage, disease state, and genetics. For each aspect, wherever possible an integrative cross-disciplinary approach is used that combines in vitro mechanistic studies with animal models and human clinical and epidemiologic studies. These results will then be available for systems biology approaches. By directly linking susceptibility to health endpoints, this research will add biologic plausibility to associations identified in epidemiology studies. As these studies allow for better definition of susceptible subpopulations and reveal host factors and mechanisms of enhanced susceptibility, the agency will be better able to advise the public of actions that can be taken to protect health during high pollution episodes
