The ECOTOX Knowledgebase

Citation:

RUSSOM, C. L. The ECOTOX Knowledgebase. Presented at USEPA ERAF and TSERAWG Joint Winter Meeting, Vicksburg, MS, January 27 - 29, 2009.

Impact/Purpose:

This presentation will give an overview the ECOTOX database, including method used for acquiring and encoding data within the database structure, chemicals and species included in the database and where data gaps may exist, how the system is maintained / updated, limitations to the data included in ECOTOX, and how users can access the data file.

Description:

The U.S. EPAs ECOTOX database is the largest compilation of ecotoxicity data, providing information on the adverse effects of single chemical stressors to ecologically relevant aquatic and terrestrial species. The database includes 614,090 test records abstracted from over 27,000 publications and seven electronic data files, with data available for approximately 8,000 aquatic and terrestrial species and 8,800 chemicals. ECOTOX includes results for 10 major effect groups: behavioral, biochemical, cellular, growth, mortality, physiology, population, reproduction, ecosystem and bioaccumulation responses. This presentation will give an overview the ECOTOX database, including method used for acquiring and encoding data within the database structure, chemicals and species included in the database and where data gaps may exist, how the system is maintained / updated, limitations to the data included in ECOTOX, and how users can access the data file. A brief demonstration will follow the talk.
