TRACI - TOOL FOR THE REDUCTION AND ASSESSMENT OF CHEMICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS (SYSTEMS ANALYSIS BRANCH, SUSTAINABLE TECHNOLOGY DIVISION, NRMRL)

Citation:

Description:

TRACI is an impact assessment tool being developed to assist in environmental decision making for programs in Pollution Prevention (P2), Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Sustainable Development (SD). TRACI includes impact assessment methodologies and supporting databases to allow a screening level assessment in ten impact categories and provides extensive documentation to assist practitioners in understanding the impact assessment methodologies. Potential impacts maybe considered independently or aggregated utilizing normalization and validation processes for a consistent decision making framework. Seven impact categories are related to chemical emissions: stratospheric ozone depletion, global warming acidification, eutrophication, smog formation, and two human health categories. Three categories are related to resource use of fossil fuels, land use, and water use. In several categories new impact assessment methodologies and their supporting documentation is presented.
