DEVELOP ECONOMIC ANALYSIS CAPABILITY OF THE SOLVENT ALTERNATIVES GUIDE (SAGE)(SYSTEMS ANALYSIS BRANCH, SUSTAINABLE TECHNOLOGY DIVISION, NRMRL)

Citation:

Description:

This task will upgrade and enhance the SAGE software system by developing cost algorithms that will give it a cost projection capability. This capability will complement the process selection capability of the existing system by giving the user a complete picture including the cost and technical requirements for installation of low polluting surface cleaning processes. The cost algorithm models will be developed to allow evaluation of the incremental costs associated with the installation of selected process technology. The algorithms will be developed by collecting technical, facility, process, and implementation cost information on the various cleaning options included in the SAGE system. The algorithms will then model the cost ranges of each element of the installation and allow cost projections based on the system specifications defined by the user. Coupled with a graphics capability that will be incorporated into the system the unit operations can be individually assessed from the cost models. Both the incremental and total process cost can be determined for the process and evaluated. With this ability to evaluate the costs of the various elements of a cleaning process, an operator can determine the total process cost based on the equipment and facility modifications needed to install a process.
