Citation:

Description:

The major technical efforts under the management of NRMRL's Sustainable Technology Division's Systems Analysis Branch (SAB) are organized under research programs. Listed below are the SAB research programs and brief descriptions of their function. Simulation & Design -- This program focuses on developing and demonstrating computerized approaches to achieving environmentally beneficial changes in manufacturing processes and products and measuring the progress achieved. Environmental Engineering Economics (E3) -- This Laboratory-wide program focuses on cost estimating and cost-effectiveness data and tools that can be applied to environmental decision-making. Life Cycle Assessment -- The goal of this program is to advance LCA practice and application across the public and private sectors. Impact Assessment and Measurement -- This effort is to influence environmental decision making in Sustainable Development, Life Cycle Impact Assessment, and Pollution Prevention through the research, development, and application of comprehensive impact assessment and progress measurement. Engineering Trade-Offs -- ETO is charged with developing a new, integrated decision making approach to compare/contrast two or more states of being: a benchmark and an alternative, a change in a production process, alternative processes or products.
