RISK MANAGEMENT OF ENDOCRINE DISRUPTING CHEMICALS (EDCS) RESEARCH PROGRAM -- TREATMENT AND DESTRUCTION BRANCH (LRPCD, NRMRL)

Citation:

Description:

Chemicals now in and continuing to enter the environment may be causing adverse endocrine-related health ecosystem effects. Because recognized exposure of humans and ecosystems to known or highly suspected EDCs may be minimized quickly and easily by adapting existing risk management (RM) tools, EPA's National Risk Management Research Laboratory (NRMRL) is investigating these opportunities now. RM research will be continually refocused as ongoing health effects and exposure research, risk assessments, and EPA Program Offices and the Regions' needs generate new information. Some EDCs present in the environment include DDT, DDE, some PCBs, methoxychlor, mammalian hormones, octa and nonyl phenols, some chlorinated dioxins and furans, bisphenol A, and lead. The RM of EDCs research program has recently begun in two focal areas: information dissemination and research.
